Lactate Testing
A graded exercise test on the treadmill or ergometer with capillary lactate measurement. 60 minutes. It pinpoints your individual training zones — so you train smarter, not just harder. Included in the Endurance package (CHF 399) together with spiroergometry and body composition — detailed analysis included. Available in Kloten and Zurich West, bookable online.
At a glance
- Duration: 60 minutes, graded test incl. preparation
- Price: CHF 199 as a single test — included in the Endurance and All-In packages
- Suitability: from age 16; fitness for sport is a prerequisite
- You receive: PDF report + consultation — zones, thresholds, maximum lactate
Five measurements. Your individual load curve.
- Resting lactate (mmol/l) — your baseline value before the test starts. Used to check your recovery status.
- Aerobic threshold (LT1) (watts, bpm, mmol/l) — the first significant rise in lactate. Basis for base-endurance training.
- Anaerobic threshold (LT2) (watts, bpm, mmol/l) — your maximal steady-state point. Basis for race pace and threshold training.
- Maximum lactate concentration (mmol/l) — the value after full effort. Indicates anaerobic capacity and buffering ability.
- Individual training zones — five zones based on your personal thresholds, for your entire training plan and polarised training.
What your PDF report contains
- All measured parameters, put in context against your age group
- Individual training zones with heart-rate and watt ranges
- A training plan for the next 8–12 weeks — in the detailed analysis (CHF 80, within 24 h; included in Run Technique, Endurance and All-In)
- A re-test recommendation with the option to compare results
Frequently asked before booking
How does the lactate measurement actually work?
You complete a graded test (3–5 minutes per stage, with increasing load). At the end of each stage we take a small drop of blood from your earlobe or fingertip and measure the lactate concentration. From the resulting curve we calculate your thresholds and zones.
Does the blood sampling hurt?
No — it is a small prick, like a diabetes test. The puncture closes within seconds.
Lactate test or breath-gas analysis — which is better for me?
Lactate is cheaper and sufficient for recreational and amateur sport. Breath-gas analysis additionally delivers VO₂max and RER — more relevant for ambitious competitive athletes. The Endurance package combines both.
How should I prepare for the test?
Last training session at least 24 hours before. Last larger meal 2–3 hours before. Drink enough, and bring sports clothing and shoes.
When does a re-test make sense?
After 8–12 weeks of season build-up, before important competitions, or during rehab as a progress check.
