Key facts

Typical complaints

What manual therapy does for you

Manual therapy is the targeted mobilisation of joints, muscles and nerves — and diagnostics at the same time. Instead of treating broadly, we use our hands to locate exactly the segment that is limiting you: the blocked vertebral joint, the stiff shoulder after immobilisation, the ankle that never regained its full range of motion after a sprain. The aim is to improve mobility and ease pain — gently, in carefully dosed steps and always adjusted to your response.

Why mobilisation alone is not enough

An isolated mobilisation loses its effect within a few days if nothing follows. That is why we consolidate the newly gained range of motion straight afterwards with active exercises — your nervous system learns to use the new freedom of movement on its own. Manual therapy improves mobility and makes training possible in the first place; it does not replace it. This is exactly where our approach comes in: from the treatment table straight into the Sport Performance Center, where mobility becomes resilient strength.

A team working to international standards

The foundations of manual therapy are part of every physiotherapist’s core training — our whole team applies it. Seven therapists at our Kloten and Zurich West locations additionally hold specialised advanced training — from Maitland and Cyriax to specialised CAS degrees and IFOMPT accreditation, the highest international standard in the field. For you, this range means we combine the technique that fits your findings and, where useful, work with methods such as dry needling. You can see who you will meet in our team before you book.

Frequently asked questions

What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy is a specialised physiotherapy treatment in which we mobilise joints, muscles and nerves precisely with our hands. It is assessment and treatment in one: we locate restricted segments and treat them with carefully dosed hands-on techniques. The aim is to improve mobility and ease pain. Active exercises immediately afterwards make the effect last.

Who is manual therapy suitable for?

Manual therapy can help with blocked or movement-restricted joints, chronic back pain, sports injuries with restricted movement and in rehab after immobilisation. Whether it makes sense for you is something we clarify during your initial assessment. It is for anyone who wants to regain mobility and load their body with less pain — from everyday life to competitive sport.

Is manual therapy covered by health insurance?

Yes. With a doctor’s prescription, treatment is covered by basic health insurance (KVG). After an accident we bill accident insurance (UVG). As a self-payer you can book an appointment at any time without a prescription. If you have questions about registration, we are happy to help at both locations in Kloten and Zurich West.

Is manual therapy the same as a massage?

No. A massage primarily relaxes the tissue, whereas manual therapy mobilises individual joints, muscles and nerves in a targeted way — and assesses them at the same time. The focus is on mobility, not on strength or pure relaxation. That is why we always combine mobilisation with active exercises — only then does the regained range of motion last beyond the treatment.
